State Farm : Thanks for Being There
New York Times: Media Decoder | IN THE NEWS

It’s the people who are there for us who help us get through life’s best and worst moments. State Farm wanted to allow people to share their gratitude for all the people who’ve been there, and they wanted to do it in a big digital way. To make this happen, we built a highly interactive application for users to send a note of thanks, browse other thank yous and share the sentiments with others via social networks like Facebook and Twitter. What’s not to feel good about being immersed in a cloud of thank you messages?

Thanks For Being There immerses users into a rich experience of gratitude. Once loaded, the user flies into a cloud of individual thank you messages and is free to navigate and explore in this 3D-seeming space. The cloud itself responds to mouse movements, shifting naturally as the user moves left and right. A simple click on a distant thank you message zooms the user deeper into the cloud and clicking on the white background zooms them backward. Clicking any thank you on the foreground opens it up so the user can view the details of the message and share the sentiment of gratitude via social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Digg. They can also filter the thank yous through navigation buttons and a rotating, spherical tag cloud.
Feeling appreciative? Users can create their own thank you message, complete with personal photo or video taken from their web cam. We built the thank you creator in Flash for a seamless interactive experience that focused on the thank you. The user is taken through a simple three step creation process, and their card is added to the cloud shortly after being submitted.
